Google Music Store

As expected Google deleted "Beta" from its Google Music site today. You will no longer need an invite to sign up for Google's Music site. You can store up to 20,000 songs from your personal music library. Google Music users can also purchase their favorite music tracks for as little as 99c per track. If you are using your Andorid on T-Mobile, purchases can be directly charged to your T-Mobile bill.

With Google Music you can access your Google Music library anywhere and anytime - no syncing, no wires. You can also Stream music instantly on the web and listen on your Android phone or tablet with the Google Music app. Not online? No problem. Just save your favorites to your mobile device for offline playback.

Google has also integrated its Music store with Google+. Purchased songs can be shared with friends on Google+ who can listen to the song once for free before deciding if they would like to purchase the song or not.

Best of all Google Music will continue to be a free service unlike iTunes Match which is $24.99 yearly. What are you waiting for? If you aren't signed up at Google Music yet go hit the source link to sign up for free.

Netflix chooses Android over iOS

I read an interesting article on NYTImes by Nick Wingfield. He talks about how Netflix launched its latest app for Android tablets before developing one for iPad. In his words "The bounty of apps for iPad and iPhone are one of the cornerstones of Apple‘s strategy for promoting the devices. It isn’t a great sign for the company then, when an important developer says it’s going to do a superior app first for Google‘s rival Android operating system."

Even though Netflix has announced that iPad update will follow soon it is still an interesting observation given that traditionally developers have been more keen on releasing iPhone/iPad apps before updating Android. Even though iPad competitors might have sliced iPad's tablet market share by couple of percentage points, no competitor has come close to iPad's market share.

It is yet to be seen if Amazon can make in roads with Kindle Fire which was recently launched. Kindle Fire runs on Android OS, so a win for Kindle Fire would ultimately mean win for Android.

iPhone 4S to come to world's 2nd largest mobile market, India

Bharti Airtel and Aircel will launch iPhone 4S in India on November 25th. Neither one of them have revealed the pricing of the phone. Apple has started selling unlocked version of iPhone 4S 16 GB for $649 on their US site. Converting that in Indian Rupees I would guess Airtel and Aircel would sell the unlocked version of 16GB iPhone 4S for around INR 35,000. It is still unknown if either one of the mobile operator would offer subsidy if you are willing to sign a contract.

If you are an iPhone fan-boy you can start queuing outside Apple/Airtel/Aircel starting midnight on the 25th.

iCloud and iTunes Match for the Music Lovers

Apple announced iCloud, iTunes in the Cloud a while back. With iCloud, the music you purchase via iTunes appears automatically on all of your devices. You can also download your past iTunes purchases. Where you want, when you want.

iCloud is only useful if majority of the songs in your music library are purchased from iTunes. If you have purchased your songs from other sources, or imported songs from a CD ( I could only think of these two options as I know you guys wouldn't steal music) you are out of luck, unless you sign up for iMatch (iTunes Match).

iTunes Match, launched on November 14th, works on any device with iOS 5.0.1 or higher. You will also need to pay $24.99 yearly subscription fees. Once you are signed up you can store your entire music library (25,000 Songs limit) in the cloud. iTunes matches the songs in your collection with the 20 million songs available in iTunes Store. If a match is found the song will be automatically added to iCloud and available for you to stream on any of your iOS5.0.1 or higher devices. The good part is you don't have to wait hours for 1000s of your songs to be uploaded (I hope Google Music is listening). If a match is found there is no need to upload the song. Even better, all the music iTunes matches plays back from iCloud at 256-Kbps AAC DRM-free quality — even if your original copy was of lower quality. iTunes will upload the song if it can't find a match for it.

On a separate note Google is going to launch Google Music Store tomorrow, November 16th. Details are fuzzy at this point on what to expect from this launch, but it will be interesting to see if Google also launches something similar to iMatch without the subscription fees.

Netflix App Updated for Android. iOS Update Coming Soon
